FOR one lucky resident it seems Christmas is not over – he is still receiving cards from loved ones nearly two months after the festive season finished.
David Whiteing, from Danbury, and his wife Brigitte, were surprised when two cards from relatives arrived through the letterbox this week bestowing "season's greetings", although the demand to pay for extra postage was slightly less welcome.
"We didn't know when they arrived what they were and I was pretty reluctant to pay, but after we'd paid our 9p per letter, plus £1 handling fee, we found they were Christmas cards from our grandson, and my cousin.
"We assumed they'd long been lost or stolen in the post but now we have £40 of vouchers to spend at least.
"I just wonder, if we've received two, how many others have yet to be delivered?"
But David, 69, does hope the tradition of sending cards through the post carries on another few years, despite the drawbacks of snail mail.
"Admittedly, we've had to cut back our own Christmas card list as it gets pretty expensive so people we haven't seen for 20 years have been slashed from the list.
"But I do hope people keep sending cards for a few years – although e-mail is clearly a lot faster."
