A MAN has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Gillian Andrade.

Daniel Hodges, 31, was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday (February 15) for the murder of the 39-year-old, from Buckhurst Hill.

He will serve a minimum of seventeen and a half years.

Andrade was discovered dead inside a house in Churchfields, Loughton, on July 28, 2012.

The post mortem examination result showed that she died from a knife wound.

Daniel Hodges was working as an oil rigger off the Scottish coast but was renting a room at the house in Churchfields.

He had previously been in a relationship with Gillian Andrade and they had met up that evening.

Hodges initially denied that he was responsible for Andrade's death but was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder.

SIO Det Chief Insp Lucy Robinson from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said:  "Daniel Hodges was a controlling man with a violent temper. Gillian was a woman who was full of life; a loving mother, daughter and sister."
"Gillian had been in relationship with Mr Hodges and she trusted him. He abused that trust and selfishly, through his own violent jealousy, took Gillian's life away from her family."
