A MAN wielding a kitchen knife has robbed The Carphone Warehouse in Southend.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the armed robbery - which took place yesterday (Friday, March 8) at 4pm when the man entered the High Street shop.
The robber produced the knife and demanded mobile phones - forcing members of staff to hand over thousands of pounds worth of Apple Iphone 5s.
The man then fled the store but not before apologising for his actions.
He is described by police as being white with a skinny build - and was wearing a large black coat, faded denim jeans, a black scarf around his lower face and woollen gloves.
Investigating officer Dc Bob Evans said: "This man had a total disregard for not only the two members of staff who were in the shop at the time but for any members of the public who could have entered the shop at the time of the robbery."
"This robbery was carried out when there were large numbers of people in the High Street and they may have witnessed the suspect running from the store onto the High Street and then onto to Clifftown Road by Southend Central Railway Station."
"I would urge anyone with information to contact me."
Anyone with information about the incident or anyone who is offered new Apple Iphones should contact Dc Evans or his colleagues at Southend CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
