Detectives investigating the deaths of two people discovered in a Hatfield Heath hotel indoor swimming pool are examining their nature of their relationship.
A man in his early 30s and a woman in her 20s were found in Down Hall Country House Hotel in Matching Road by another guest at around 7.35pm.
Despite ambulance crews and hotel staff's attempts the pair, who are said to have arrived together from the London area, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are treating the deaths as unexplained at this stage, with a post-mortem examination due to take place today.
Speaking yesterday, chief Inspector Nick Lee, of Essex Police, said: "Despite valiant attempts by ambulance and hotel staff they were unable to resuscitate them.
"It's a very unusual incident and officers are investigating these events.
"The outcome of the toxicology reports will determine a lot.
"But we are not looking for anybody else at this stage of the investigation.
"We believe they arrived together, but are still investigating the nature of their relationship."
The venue is well-known for hosting functions and conferences, with two weddings held over the weekend, but it is not known if they were guests at these events.
The next of kin have been informed, however only the man has been formally identified.
