ON TOP of A levels, university applications and a part-time job, a St Martin's student has made it through the first of six Sunday finals that make up regional singing competition The Essex Factor.

Lilly Palmer passed the first stage of the finals on Sunday, October 21, with a medley of tracks that she titled Finally We Found A Rhythm.

The 17-year-old from Brentwood has had the dream of becoming a performer since she was young. She succeeded in the initial audition followed by the boot camp stage and is being mentored by professional singer James Grant now she has reached the finals.

Miss Palmer, who auditioned in September, said: "I found the information online and it advertised open auditions. I thought, considering I've got a bit of spare time on my hands, it's something I would like to do."

Lilly will be performing again at Chicago Rock in the Basildon Festival Leisure Centre on October 28. People can vote for her by sending a text saying Factor Lilly to 85010 that says. Texts cost a standard rate plus 50p.
