A Chelmsford woman has been arrested following a crash in Basildon last night in which a man in his 20s died.
The collision involved a red Mini Cooper and a pedestrian on Dry Street shortly before 8pm yesterday.
The man, who lived in the area, was taken by paramedics to the nearby Basildon University Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries.
A 24-year-old woman from Chelmsford, who was uninjured, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
She was then released on police bail until Wednesday, July 31, pending further enquiries.
A section of Dry Street near the hospital was closed while forensic collision investigators tried to identify the cause of the crash.
