BUDDING lawyers took part in their annual school's legal debate in Chelmsford.

St John Payne won the competition for the fourth year running, which sees A Level students around the city competing for the title.

Best speaker went to Sinead Jean, from St John Payne, and Calum Glover from Felsted School.

The event was lead by solicitor firm, Gepp & Sons, and the motion for this year was 'This house would legalise assisted suicide'.

The judging panel included The Rt. Hon. Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe, the High Sheriff of Essex and the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, along with Crown Court Judges and other legal professionals.

Organiser, Samantha Collins said: "The standard was exceptionally high this year, and we did not know whether another school was going to knock St John Payne off the top spot."

The schools involved were Chelmer Valley High School, Chelmsford College, Chelmsford County High School for Girls, Felsted School, Great Baddow High School, King Edward VI Grammar School, St John Payne Catholic Comprehensive and William De Ferrers School.
