ARMED with cutlasses, freshly painted faces and with a thirst for treasure, more than 250 junior swarthy swashbucklers descended on Galleywood Heritage Centre on Monday.
The centre's first ever Pirate Treasure Hunt hosted a timetable of face painting, tombola and fancy dress competition prize giving and a barbecue.
The £700 fundraised is going towards the transformation of a redundant 19m-by-10m concrete garage into an archive storage and tuition building to act as a resource for the centre.
"The day went extremely well," said Galleywood Heritage Centre chairman John Turkentine.
"It's the first time we've done a pirate themed day but we're going to make it an annual thing.
"It is already booked for next year.
"We usually do an egg hunt during Easter but we thought why not have something similar on the August bank holiday too.
"I'd like to thank all of the volunteers here at the centre for making the day possible."
