Essex commuters will have to endure busier and longer-than-usual journeys this week as a transport union has called for a 48-hour Tube strike. The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has called for the industrial action, which will begin at 9pm tonight (Monday) and finish at 8.59pm on Wednesday, as part of a long-running dispute into the closure of ticket offices and loss of around 960 jobs. But it is believed that strike action could begin before the official walk-out time – and continue until the start of service on Thursday, May 1. The strike action means that parts of Tube lines will not be served, many stations closed and commuters from Essex are set to have to cope with busier-than-normal trains. Tube services that do run are expected to start at 7am, with the last trains leaving central London at around 9.30pm, finishing completely at 11pm.
