Rendell wins at Oulton Park.
Chelmsford biker Ed Rendell is happy to be competitive so far this season – but ultimately hopes to step up to the highest level of British Superbikes.
Rendell is leading the Championship in his 125 class after two races, winning the most recent at Oulton Park by some 17 seconds on Monday.
Finances remain a stumbling block in his bid to further his career, and he admits he would rather be doing well in a lesser category than struggling at a higher level due to a lack of investment.
"I've stepped up to stock sixes before," he said. "But from past experience unless you've got the backing and the people to support you it makes it incredibly hard.
"If you make that jump and you haven't got the backing you're just going to run around in the middle of the field on an average bike which isn't what I want to do.
"I'd rather stay in a class where I can be at the front until I have the support to move on.
"I'd love to move up and get to British Superbikes one day but without the money it's very hard to do."
Rendell is desperately raising funds to pay his tyre bill ahead of the third round at Snetterton (13/14/15 June). If you can spare a tenner visit him on Twitter ¬¬– @edrendell12 – to donate.
