Two Essex Police officers who were filmed playing Sound of Da Police from their marked car on a late-night patrol of Chelmsford last month could face a disciplinary probe.
Passers-by in the High Street over the Easter weekend were stunned to hear the KRS One classic blaring from the vehicle's speakers.
However, despite the largely positive reaction to the clip, which was quickly uploaded to YouTube and Facebook, the force has confirmed the matter has now been passed to a senior officer.
A Essex Police spokesman said: "The two officers have been identified after contacting the professional standards department and they have provided information regarding their behaviour and activity.
"A report will now be sent to a senior officer for a decision to be made as to what if any disciplinary action needs to be taken."
The track shot to prominence in La Haine, the 1995 black and white French film about youths clashing with the police.
