A 'STALWART' and 'amazing' member of staff at a Chelmsford surgery picked up the phone for the last time last week as she retired after 27 years of service.

Sue Davis, 62, worked as a receptionist at the Tennyson House Surgery in Merlin Place after joining the surgery in 1986 and has stayed ever since.

"I've enjoyed it, it's been very varied.

"I've always worked as a receptionist but I have also done quite a bit of admin," she said.

"The highlight was being able to help the patients when I could and working with the people at the surgery.

"We have had laughs with different things that have happened over the years."

Asked about what would be the best bit about her retirement, Sue, who lives in Banters Lane in Great Leighs, said: "I'm going to be moving house shortly and I'm going to be enjoying my grandchildren more."

The surgery's practice operations manager, Liz Allenby, said: "She's amazing, she is going to be a great loss to us – she has a wealth of knowledge and she has been here forever. "She's a stalwart of the surgery."
