Licensing laws will be relaxed during the World Cup in order to allow pubs in England and Wales to remain open during the late night games.
They will be permitted to remain open until 1am when an English kick-off is at 8pm or later, therefore, this will affect England's opening game against Italy on the 14th June, with kick-off at 11pm.
During an event of "exceptional international, national or local significance", ministers have the power to relax such rules.
Individual pubs are now able to apply for a one-off late licence costing £21.
