Four fire crews took more than an hour and a half to extinguish the blaze at Wood Road, Heybridge, yesterday (June 15).
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police attended the scene around 9pm and a 29-year-old man from Maldon was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson and criminal damage.
"He remains in custody and is helping officers with their enquiries at Chelmsford Police Station."
