Planes flying in and out of Stansted Airport could fly less frequently and at a higher altitude above Essex, under plans to modernise London flight routes.
Air traffic control bosses are currently seeking opinion on a proposal to double the amount of daytime planes departing via land east of the airport, flying over Kelvedon and Great Dunmow.
In turn this would halve the number departing in the daytime to the south of the airport.
The London Airspace Consultation also aims to reduce CO2 emissions and reduce the number of delays at Stansted.
Images released by the airport show the proportion of flights flying up to 7,000 feet over Chelmsford and Billericay and those flying over Kelvedon.
The maps show that planes flying east can reach 7,000 feet quicker.
This is because when flying south over the Thames Estuary planes must travel below planes flying out of Heathrow.
The consultation closes on Monday, September 8.
