A woman was touched inappropriately while she lay on the ground in Chelmsford city centre over the weekend, according to police.
The victim was reportedly sexually touched at around 2.55am on Saturday (June 21) in the High Street.
The alleged incident was picked up by Chelmsford City Council staff on CCTV, who in turn alerted Essex Police officers.
An unemployed 29-year-old man, whose identity the police have yet to disclose, was arrested.
He was later charged with sexual touching and released on bail to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on July 8.
The woman in question was taken to Broomfield Hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning.
Chelmsford inspector John Hallworth added: "Police want to remind people who are visiting the night time economy of the dangers of excessive drinking and of the importance of both planning your route to and from the city centre and of looking after members of your group."
