A man and teenage boy were arrested after a stolen Ford Transit van sped away from police before crashing into a lamppost in Witham.
The vehicle had failed to stop for Essex Police officers driving a marked police car before the collision in Cypress Road at around 1.30am on Friday (July 18).
Two people then fled the scene before being caught and detained.
The collision is believed to have cause a temporary loss of power in nearby properties.
A 20-year-old man and boy, 17, both from Harlow were quizzed and later released on bail until August 8 on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped for theft.
The 17-year-old was also bailed in relation to dangerous driving, driving with no insurance or licence and failing to stop for police.
