A MAN has appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court yesterday (July 23) accused of alleged historical sex assaults on an underage boy.
Lance Middleditch, 55, of Queenborough Lane, Chelmsford, is charged with seven offences, including five charges of indecent assault against a boy under 14 and three counts of rape of a boy under 16.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1980 and 1988.
The court heard how he lives with his elderly mother and is her sole carer.
Middleditch was released on conditional bail to re-appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on October 20.
