AMERICA'S favourite Tex-Mex fast food restaurant could be on its way to Chelmsford.
Taco Bell has applied to Chelmsford City Council for permission to put up illuminated signs at 213 Moulsham Street, formerly the location of the Futon Company.
The fast food outlet, which sells a blend of Mexican and Texan inspired foods such as tacos, burritos and nachos, has more than 6,500 stores worldwide.
Despite being first introduced to UK high streets in 1986, and with outlets in Lakeside and Eastgate Shopping Centre, Basildon, the brand remains relatively unknown in here.
Taco Bell's best seller in 2012 was the 'Dorito Taco' - a cheese flavoured Dorito taco shell filled with beef, lettuce and tomatoes. There were 100 million sales recorded within 10 weeks of the dish.
Competition
Most of the top fast food global brands have a presence in the city, with the exception of Burger King and Dairy Queen.
Burger King ended more than 10 years on High Street next to the River Can in September when its lease ran out, while Dairy Queen, known for its frozen treats, does not have a UK presence among its 900 stores.
Wimpy used to have a presence in Duke Street but pulled out of the city some years ago.
