CASES heard by Chelmsford and Colchester magistrates from Tuesday, July 8 to Tuesday, July 15.
Sent to prison
PAUL DANIEL ROBINSON, 57, of Cromwell Close, Boreham, was sent to prison for a total of six weeks.
He was given four weeks consecutive for possessing a quantity of cannabis, a controlled class B drug, at Chelmsford on May 9, while subject to a suspended sentence for a similar offence.
The suspended sentence of six weeks imposed on January 9 was implemented as a two week sentence. He was also ordered to forfeit the drugs and have them destroyed.
CARL ANDREW STEIN, 38, of Widford Park Place, Chelmsford, was sent to prison for eight weeks for failing to comply with the requirements of a community order made on August 29 last year by failing to attend appointments on June 19 and 20. This was the fourth time he had breached the order.
MICHAEL JOHN DUNCAN, 52, of New Street, Dunmow, was sent to prison for four months for making nuisance calls to the emergency 999 services when prohibited from doing so by an anti social behaviour order made on September 16, 2010.
Suspended sentence
LEIGH MICHELE JONES, 55, of Redmayne Drive, Chelmsford, was given a 20 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for committing fraud while working as a sales assistant at Marks & Spencer in Chelmsford between November 7, 2013 and May 31, 2014. She had dishonestly abused the position by intending to make a gain of £15,897. She must carry out 240 hours of unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months, pay a victim surcharge of £80 and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
CLIVE NOEL LOVEJOY, 58, of Ketleys, Chelmsford, was given a 16 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for drink driving at Chelmsford on June 29. The defendant had driven a Ford Mondeo along Watchouse Road, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, measured 92 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than two and a half times the limit. He must have treatment for alcohol dependency for six months, participate in a Drink Drive Impairment programme for 14 days, and attend appointments with a responsible officer. He was banned from driving for five years and must pay a victim surcharge of £80 and £85 costs to the CPS.
Breach of ASBO
STEVEN ROSS PARKHURST, 26, of Pearce Manor, Chelmsford, was placed under a curfew for one month, with electronic monitoring, to ensure compliance with the curfew.
He had failed to engage with probation and unlawfully removed the electronic tag. He must also carry out 20 hours unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months in addition to the original requirements of the order made on June 11 and pay £50 costs.
Criminal damage
CHARLIE JAMES BARRETT, 22, of Windsor Way, Chelmsford, was given a community order for damaging a Vauxhall Corsa to the value of £3,112.13 belonging to Hollie Pitcher in Chelmsford on June 24.
The defendant must carry out 40 hours of unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months, pay £1,550 compensation, a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
BENJAMIN JOHN MICHAEL MAXTED, 29, of Wagtail Drive, Heybridge, was given a community order for possessing an offensive weapon in the form of a rounders bat at Wagtail Drive on May 28.
He pleaded guilty to damaging a door lock and wall plaster to the value of £150 belonging to Charley Foakes.
The defendant must carry out 200 hours of unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months and pay £50 compensation, plus a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Drugs - possession
WAYNE EVAN GIBSON, 46, of Wedow Road, Thaxted, was fined £100 for possessing a quantity of cocaine, a controlled class A drug, at Dunmow on June 14.
He must pay a victim surcharge of £20 and forfeit the drugs and have them destroyed.
Drunk in charge
JOANNE DALTON, 38, of Deanery Hill, Braintree, was fined £75 for being drunk at Deanery Hill while being in charge of a child aged under seven years old on December 8.
She must also pay a £20 victim surcharge and £50 costs to the CPS.
Harassment
LUCY HORNCASTLE, 20, of Pickwick Avenue, Chelmsford, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months for harassing Nicholas Sherreard between April 21 and 28.
She pleaded guilty to persistently texting, calling, and sending abusive Facebook messages.
She also attended his home address threatening to harm and kill herself, cutting her wrist and smearing blood on his front door, windows and car, causing distress and harassment.
The defendant was given a restraining order not to contact Mr Sherreard and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Social Security offences
VICTORIA MOSS, 44, of Perryfields, Braintree, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months for failing to notify Braintree District Council of a change of circumstances that would have affected her entitlement to housing benefit and council tax between April 23, 2012 and January 1, 2014.
She was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £200 costs.
Theft – shoplifting
MATTHEW EDWARD CROUCH, 38, of Upper Mill Field, Dunmow, was given a community order for stealing groceries to the value of £7.99 from Tesco at Braintree on June 7.
He was ordered to attend appointments with a responsible officer and pay a £60 victim surcharge.
DOREEN MORGAN, 57, of Bartram Avenue, Braintree, was given a 12 month conditional discharge for stealing wine valued at £12.59 from Tesco at Market Place in Braintree on May 7.
She must pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Theft – other
THOMAS MATTHEWS, 23, of Newlands Avenue, Great Bardfield, was given a community order for taking a Renault Clio without the owner's consent at Braintree on April 5.
He was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months and pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
The defendant also pleaded guilty to driving along Parkway in Chelmsford on April 6 without a valid driving licence or insurance and wilfully obstructing a Police Constable in the execution of his duty, and was given six penalty points on his licence.
Threatening behaviour
ROBERT JAMES ASHWORTH, 54, of Ouse Chase, Witham, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months for using threatening or abusive words or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress at Chelmsford on June 23.
He must pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
DAVID RONALD BRAMBLE, 34, of Chestnut Way, Tiptree, was given a community order for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour likely to cause unlawful violence being used at Fairfax Road, Colchester, on April 15 while subject to a suspended sentence order imposed on October 9 last year.
The defendant must carry out 60 hours of unpaid, supervised work within the next 12 months, pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Careless driving
RICHARD DORDOYE, 31, of Kings Road, Chelmsford, was given five penalty points on his licence for driving without due care and attention along the B1008 at Ford End on November 4.
The defendant had failed to slow down for a sharp right hand bend, in damp conditions and lost control.
He hit a raised verge, damaging the road surface as he slid across the junction and came to rest in a drainage ditch.
He was fined £120 and must pay a £20 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
LEE MARTIN MONK, 30, of Meadgate Avenue, Chelmsford, was given a six month driving ban due to repeat offending.
The defendant had driven along Baddow Road, Chelmsford, on October 11 without due care and attention.
He failed to brake in time behind a vehicle which was turning left in front of him, and collided with that vehicle.
He was also driving without insurance and was fined £300 for each of the offences. He must also pay a £30 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
Drink-driving
KEITH WILLAN, 54, of Church Road, Boreham, as disqualified from driving for 14 months after driving along Main Road, Boreham, on June 30 after he had been drinking.
The proportion of alcohol measured 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, just under one and a half times the limit.
He was fined £640 plus a £64 victim surcharge and must pay £85 costs to the CPS.
ADRIAN EDWARD BENDELL, 43, of Salcott Creek, Braintree, was banned from driving for 18 months for driving along London Road at Braintree on June 28 after he had been drinking.
The proportion of alcohol in his breath measured 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, double the limit.
He was fined £360 plus a £36 victim surcharge and must pay £85 costs to the CPS. He also pleaded guilty to driving without a valid driving licence.
JOSHUA JAMES CHARLES GREENWAY, 24, of Old Burs Lodge Lane, Church Road, Stansted, was given an 18 month driving ban for driving along the B1383 at Stansted Mountfitchet on June 29 after he had been drinking.
The proportion of alcohol measured 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than double the limit.
He was fined £240 plus a £24 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Traffic offences
MYLES ANTHONY JOHN COLLINS, 25, of Grange Court, Chelmsford, was given six points and a community order for three counts of traffic offences.
The defendant pleaded guilty to driving along Widford Road, Chelmsford, on June 25, without insurance and while disqualified.
He had also dishonestly made off without paying £56.95 for fuel at Chelmsford on May 29.
The defendant was ordered to participate in the Bridge Project for 15 days, a Thinking Skills programme for 19 days, and attend appointments with a responsible officer.
He must pay £56.95 compensation in addition to a £60 victim surcharge.
