CHELMSFORD City are hoping to confirm their new chairman before the start of the 2014/15 Conference South season. The Clarets were shocked in June with the sudden resignation of Mansell Wallace, but have been busy in the pre-season to find his replacement. And with the new season at Melbourne Stadium starting this weekend, Commercial Director Trevor Smith is hoping business will be finalised during the week. Smith said: "We are interviewing this week and hope to make and announcement before the beginning of the season. It has been going along nicely and had a fair bit of interest. But at the end of the end of the day it is about getting the right person. "We have got the streams that everybody looks after and manages and we are just looking for a figurehead to sit at the top of the pyramid. Taking a helicopter view, if you like, and help manage those bits of business. "It is probably one reason why we have been so successful, because everyone has looked after their bits and got themselves together. "If we can't find that person by the end of the week then there are some people on the current board that could step up to the plate. Those people that have really come to the fore since we had our restructure." Smith has been delighted by the Claret's preparations for the new season, including the marquee signing of Glen Southam. The former Eastleigh captain joined Chelmsford with financial help from the 12th Man Supporter's club, something that Smith believes shows the togetherness of the club. He said: "We have had one of the best pre-season's we have ever had as far as the commercial side. Season-ticket sales are up on what they were last year. There is a real buzz about the place and everyone has really pulled together. Obviously Glen Southam was a premium signing for us, he only wants to win and do well. "The supporters have really come to the plate over the pre-season. As a result they have chipped in and helped bring in a player that if we had gone on our standard budget, we couldn't afford. "He is a winner and only wants to come to a club that is going somewhere. He wouldn't have come here if he didn't think that we had a chance. It is all down to the management team with their powers of persuasion to get him here."
