CHELMSFORD City boss Mark Hawkes is dreaming of a perfect start as the Clarets get their 2014/15 Conference South season underway this weekend.
Hawkes' side welcome Gosport Borough to the Melbourne Stadium on Saturday (August 9) as they look to improve on last season's 17th place.
And after a decent pre-season the Claret's manager is aiming for those three points to send them on their way.
He said: "We need a decent start and every football club dreams of that decent start.
"We have a home game and then two away games so it will be a hard start, but this is Conference South football and they are all hard. You have to play everyone home and away so it doesn't matter when you play them, they will come around eventually.
"Your Sutton's, Ebbfleet's and Bromley's of this world have made very experienced signings with loads of moneys. We have experience in this side, plus a lot of youth so it is all about how we cope with that.
"At the weekend we will hopefully get the reward of all the hard work over pre-season for when the league gets underway. We are looking for those three points to get us off to a good start."
As far as targets are concerned, Hawkes will be waiting for the early season table to settle down and expects things to level out after a few games.
He added: "As a group we have set goals that will remain internal. I think loads of managers and teams of all different standards dream of winning the league, and if you aren't doing that then they are not doing their job right.
"But you have to be realistic in that, and realistically I think that if you ask me after ten games then we will have a better idea of where we will be come the end of the season."
The last time the two sides met was in April, with the Clarets ending up 1-0 winners. But Gosport finished the 2013/14 season strongly and Hawkes is well aware that Saturday will be a stern test of his side's progression.
Hawkes added: "They ended well last season and I am expecting Gosport to be very strong and not in the regions of the bottom four like they were for a lot of last season. I think everyone realises they were there because of their cup runs and that they did finish very strongly. It will be competitive but as all managers do I am expecting to win home games."
