KENNY DAVIS believes that Braintree Town can be an attacking force in the Conference Premier this season.
With the additions of Dan Walker and Charlie Strutton, the Iron have added some much-needed firepower after the departure of Dan Holman.
And with Walker and Sean Marks both bagging a brace in the 5-0 win over Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday, Davis feels it bodes well for the season.
The 26-year-old said: "It was nice for the attacking guys to get a few goals during the week. I think for the first time in a while we have real competition for places up top. They have been doing well as a group and there haven't been just one dominant partnership. Everyone has got a chance of playing and I think it may just come down to who impresses at training this week.
"Marksy [Sean Marks] has been knocked around a bit over the last couple of seasons being the target man, but with the competition there that may just take the pressure off him a little bit.
"It means he can just go back to being the 20-goals-a-season striker that we know he can be."
Manager Alan Devonshire has also bolstered his defence with the signings of Mitch Brundle and Remy Clerima.
Brundle, 19, signed from Bristol City, with 23-year-old Clerima joining from Conference North side Brackley Town.
Davis added: "I have been very impressed with Mitch in training. He is young but very strong and I wouldn't be surprised that if he has a good season there may be a few league clubs sniffing around him.
"Some of the boys have played against Remy and know that he is a good player.
"He is quick and strong and has played at this level before. He knows what it is all about having captained Histon so is a good addition to the squad."
The Iron get their season under way with a trip to Macclesfield on Saturday, with Davis knowing that a good start will be vital this season.
He added: "We are all really looking forward to it now. We have formed a decent little team and everyone is feeling pretty sharp.
"I was saying to Alan [Devonshire, manager] that you could have the worst squad in the world but if you get a good start and win a few games then that breeds confidence.
"It is vital we get off to that decent start and get some early points."
