A MAN is fighting for his life in a coma after a violent attack in a city centre bar.
Kiran Vadnagra, who owns Chelmsford Property Management, still lies unconscious in Broomfield Hospital nearly four weeks after he was punched in an unprovoked attack at Hooga Bar in Victoria Road.
The 49-year-old has had surgery to remove part of his skull to drain the fluid on his brain.
His devastated son Jay said: "My dad is lying in hospital and not doing anything for himself.
"After his surgery two weeks ago, the doctors told us we had to decide whether to turn the life support machine off, but luckily dad opened his eyes and started moving.
"They have taken a large piece out of his skull to reduce the swelling on the front left-hand side, where he was hit. He has stitches from ear to ear. He doesn't look like my dad, he looks a mess."
Mr Vadnagra was rushed to Broomfield Hospital after the attack at 3.30am on August 11.
He was later transferred to Queens Hospital in Romford, which specialises in head injuries, but returned to Broomfield last week.
His friend, Mervyn Buwu, is recovering at home.
Bar worker Jay added: "He doesn't often go out in Chelmsford. I know he was with his friend Mervyn, who also got attacked, but he is now ok.
"Dad's arm is moving but just going up in the air, he has no control over it, and his feet are just responding to pain, but he is showing signs of life.
"He has also had a tracheostomy, which allows the doctors to control his breathing, but at the moment he is managing to breathe on his own."
Meanwhile, Mr Vadnagra's letting firm in Duke Street is closed.
"There is no one to run it and I don't know what I'm doing," said Jay. "It was meant to be moving to where the Job Centre is in Chelmsford but we can't move it and we don't know what is going to happen. He has 65 properties with landlords all wanting to know what is going on, it's a nightmare."
A 26-year-old man from Barking has been charged with grievous bodily harm and assault and has been remanded in custody until a court appearance next month.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward by calling them on 101, or e-mailing scdappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
