A GROUP of hungry students enjoyed the biggest lunch of their lives when they ordered a 12ft sandwich from Subway.
Sixteen sixth-formers from the William de Ferrers school in South Woodham Ferrers ordered the enormous sandwich after a 3ft Subway previously failed to fill them up.
Going one step further, Josh Warner, 17, of Little Baddow, decided that the 12ft Subway might do the job.
"We saw that you can order giant subs and got a 3ft one between 12 of us a few weeks ago and I thought we might as well go one bigger and make one the size of the counter," said Josh.
"Then it progressed from there and everybody else said they would chip in – and obviously help to eat it."
Subway staff had to weave the dough to make the super-sub more substantial than the average sandwich, before putting it in specially-designed 1.5ft-long moulds.
The lads opted for the steak and cheese filling and, after waiting for it to be put together, they devoured it in what is their favourite lunch time hangout.
"We kind of spend most of our free periods in Subway – well, not all of them because we have to study – but it's where we often go," said Josh.
"It cost us £10 each but it was definitely, 100 per cent worth it. It was brilliant.
"We had it cut into sections and it was like eating one big square of Subway."
But next time round, Josh and his friends are hoping to top Tuesday's 12ft order.
"I reckon we can do double," he said. "We will see how far we can go."
