Meeting local needs
Different local communities face different problems with crime. Policing cannot be one size fits all. The police should focus on the individual needs of each community.
Prompt and professional policing
I will give priority to front line and visible policing and ensure the police respond quickly and professionally whenever needed by the public.
Partnership and cooperation
I will champion local initiatives between the police, local councils and the voluntary sector to reduce crime and build safer communities.
An influential voice
I will be visible and vocal in leading the public debate about crime and policing, fighting for what is right for the people of Essex, listening always to the victims of crime.
Nick Alston, said: "My priorities are to launch the changes that I talked about during the campaign. In particular I want to make sure over the next few weeks that I learn more about the local concerns about crime and policing in each of the main districts across Essex, Southend and Thurrock and to take account of them in the Policing Plan for 2013-14.
"To do this I will be asking the Community Safety Partnerships in each area to share their priorities with me. "This will also start the new engagement with the CSPs which was another election pledge.
"I will be holding seminars on rural crime, business crime and roads policing; and on giving a voice to victims. All this has to happen before we fix the plan for next year."
