FINANCIAL holes – including the risk of parking fees rising in order to pay for a new multi-storey car park – will be discussed during a public debate on the William Hunter Way project.
Brentwood Borough Council leadership faces another test of its mettle when plans to develop a cinema and shopping centre on the car park are debated at an Extraordinary General Meeting open to the public on Monday at 7pm.
Among the questions facing council leader Louise McKinlay are the commercial viability of any new car park – a report has suggested that fees may have to rise to cover rental payments of the new 654 space car park.
The council's negotiations with developer Stockland might see it have to accept £100,000 less each year than it had anticipated in 2007.
The debate will also address issues covered in a Business Case Review document written by consultancy firm Parking Matters dated August 2012.
It warns the proposed William Hunter Way development is unlikely to increase footfall or parking demand in Brentwood.
