A WOMAN had to be cut from her car after hitting a tree on the A12 last night.
Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a Hazardous Area Response Team, fire crews and police officers rushed to the scene near Colchester at junction 27 of the northbound carriageway at around 9.45 pm.
The Anglia Two crew of the East Anglian Air Ambulance flew overhead and used night-vision equipment.
A woman in her 40s was trapped in her Citroen C3 after hitting a tree.
She was given pain relief by a doctor and taken to Colchester General Hospital in a stable condition with serious leg injuries, neck pain and suspected limb fractures.
A second woman was also taken to hospital by land ambulance with back pain.
