A YOUNG go-karting fanatic from Danbury is following in his grandfather's footsteps after smashing his track's junior record.
Scott Huntley, 11, only took up the sport a year ago, and his granddad Dennis Huntley, who passed away six months ago, was an avid go-karter in the 1960s.
But the wannabe F1 driver who is quicker than most of the adults at the A12 Entertainment Centre in Witham, is looking for a sponsor to help him go even further in the sport.
Scott's dad Stephen said: "I left my phone lying around and Scott had a go at a racing driving app on it.
"Within a few hours he had gone through the 50 levels starting on a Mini and going up to a 253mph Bugatti Veyron.
"So I thought let's give him a go at karting and see how he does.
"He enrolled in the Cadet Karting School for a tryout and he did really well in this, so I entered him in The Junior Championships and he came second as a 'Rookie' at his first attempt.
He has recently started his second Championship at Witham, where he has already won two sessions."
He achieved the track's lap record for a junior go-kart racer after finishing the circuit in 38.678 seconds 1.5 seconds quicker than his previous best time.
Scott said: "It was really difficult beating the lap record first time, which I did on the very last lap of practice.
"This time I could not believe I knocked over 1.5 seconds off the time I got two weeks ago.
"I feel really good and think I can go even faster."
Mr Huntley said: "Scott is now beating all but a handful of adults, with vastly more experience in the more powerful 200cc karts.
"What makes this record more remarkable is that Scott's only practice on the indoor track, until very recently, has just been the racing sessions during the Championships, held every two weeks," he added.
"Some of the other boys he has beaten have ten or 20 times the number of hours of practice on the track along with three years of experience.
"If Scott has achieved this record with such relatively little experience on the track, what will he achieve with regular practice?
"The old saying of practice makes perfect is true.
"I really think he has potential to go to the top.
"What we are looking for is some sponsorship to unleash his full potential.
"Scott is determined to be an F1 driver when he is older and wants to race for a British based team."
