A van driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was killed on the A1060 between Roxwell and Chelmsford this morning.
Police have appealed for witnesses following the fatal road collision, which took place just before 6am this morning.
The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the road remains closed and is expected to re-open in around three hours.
Jay Glennie, 45, who was three cars behind the incident, said: "The cars in front of me had stopped, and there was a man in a white shirt lying in the road, it didn't look good.
"I asked if they had called an ambulance, and one was already on its way. The road now is silent, it looks like an apocalypse has happened as there are no cars on there at all. I was only allowed back on the road because I live there."
The road is due to reopen at 11am.
