MULLED wine and mince pies will help to warm up visitors to a fundraising evening being held in aid of a toddler who has been struck down by a brain tumour.

The Christmas shopping evening will take place at Chicken and Frog Bookshop in Ongar Road, Brentwood, between 5.30 and 9.30pm on Friday to raise funds for Sky Harrington-Ellis.

The youngster, who is nearly two years old, had an operation to remove the tumour at Great Ormond Street Hospital on November 9.

Later this week he is due to start an intensive course of radiotherapy at University College London Hospital – a course which will mean dozens of trips into the capital over the next eight weeks.

A previous fundraiser staged at Shenfield Parish Hall on November 4 raised £4,000 for his family, who had initially hoped to fly him to the United States for treatment.

Besides refreshments, Chicken and Frog's fundraiser will feature a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Those who attend will also be able to take away any purchases in gift baskets made by craftswoman Claire Mackaness.

Mrs Mackaness, 33, said: "We want to raise as much money as we can because every penny counts for his family."
