The Essex Police helicopter was dispatched above Chelmsford after officers were told a man had been spotted darting in and out of busy traffic.
Part of Main Road in Broomfield was cleared at around 11.50am yesterday (December 23) to allow officers to follow up reports of concern for the welfare of a man.
An Essex Police spokesman said the man was seen running in and out of the road.
"Officers went to the location and the police helicopter assisted with the search, but no trace was found," he added/
