Chelmsford under 14 Braves ice hockey team entertained the visiting Bracknell Hummers at Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre, face off at 1230.
Chelmsford started with the rapidly improving Billy Cook between the pipes.
From the start this was a closely contested game between 2 evenly matched teams. There were some tough hits going in from both sides all over the ice. The intensity resulted in both teams receiving a 2 x 10 for checking from behind.
Midway through the first period The Hummers took the lead with a slap shot from just inside the blue line which beat the partially unsighted Cook in the Braves goal. Both sides continued to work hard, Hummers looking to extend their lead while the Braves searching for the equaliser. Despite their best efforts neither could score before the half time buzzer.
The second period continued where the first had left off, both sides working hard, but met by strong defence and 2 net minders on top of their game. A few minutes into the second period Coach Chittock for Chelmsford swapped net minders giving Billy a rest and putting Zach Grandy-Smith in.
At the mid-point of the period Chelmsford thought they had scored when the puck found the back of the net, the celebrations were cut short when referee Nick Stephenson chalked the score off for a high stick.
Midway through the period the Braves efforts finally paid off, after a spell of pressure on the Hummers net Laura Relf was finally beaten from close in by #47 Josh Irby.
This goal seemed to lift both teams as the game got more stretched and there were chances at both ends of the ice. Both defences held strong backed up by solid net minding.
There was no further score and so the game ended 1-1
This result lifted the Braves to second in the league with a played 6 won 3 drawn 2 lost 1 record.
