SHOPKEEPERS say people are illegally parking on a Billericay street and getting away with it.
Parking has been a serious problem since the opening of Billericay's new railway station in Radford Way around nine months ago.
Now businesses in the area argue the situation has worsened and that action must be taken.
Harish Desai, owner of Anna's Off Licence on Radford Way, said: "We have had problems here for nearly five years and nothing has been done about it.
"What we need are more parking attendants, like in London."
Worries about the quality of checks were voiced.
Mr Desai, 56, said: "Somebody comes to check the area once in a blue moon.
"There should be fixed cameras to monitor the area."
He says that delivery vans are a big part of the problem and that commuters heading into London are leaving their cars on both Radford Way and Radford Court.
These roads have a one-hour parking policy with a three-hour no-return limit, but the newsagent's owner argues these rules are not being respected.
Russell Panter, south east team leader for South Essex Parking Partnership, said: "We try to do everything we can but we cannot be everywhere all the time.
"So, yes, we do get instances of people parking illegally and getting away with it."
Mr Panter, 36, explained the difficulty in enforcing the rules and said officers can only record cars for an hour from the point when they see them.
He claimed that the area was patrolled daily and that they are enforcing the rules as best as they can.
He added: "We tell shopkeepers to give us a call if they spot anyone there that shouldn't be but we do have to obtain our own evidence as well."
