Teens run riot at Billericay party advertised on Facebook

A NEIGHBOUR of a teenager whose party was gate-crashed on Friday night after she advertised it on Facebook is seeking legal advice.

The usually quiet cul-de-sac Pauline Gardens, Billericay, descended into mayhem when a 14-year-old put an open invite to the event on social media sites.

Hundreds of youths accepted the invite, reportedly wrecking the family's home and spilling onto the road. But reports that a piano was hurled from a window are untrue, with neighbours confirming that it has sat in the front garden for some months.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, is now seeking legal advice, claiming this is not the first time teenagers have caused problems in the street.

She said: "I would like to find out legally what I can do about this. These incidents do not happen all the time, but when they do they are major."

Police were made aware of the potential trouble days earlier when posts appeared on Facebook and Twitter.

But, according to the neighbour, nothing could be done until the crowds actually appeared.

She said: "We called the police on Friday afternoon when a friend told us they'd seen details online.

"We were told the police couldn't turn up simply 'just in case' and that they'd have to wait and see.

"Quite a few of us warned them this could happen. It was all around the local schools. Things just escalated from there."

Another neighbour was amazed to see irresponsible parents drive through the crowds to drop their children off.

The young mother said: "There must have been at least 100 kids blocking the road. They did let cars through, but they were weeing in hedges, balancing their beer bottles on cars, jumping into gardens and being sick outside people's houses."

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police attended Pauline Gardens at 8pm on Friday following calls from residents regarding nuisance behaviour in the street.

"Officers found a large number of teenagers had visited the area to attend a party which had been advertised openly on social media sites.

"No arrests were made and there have been no complaints. Police cleared the area and assisted in the dispersal of teenagers and their safe travel home via Billericay Railway Station."
