OVER 2,000 documents, catalogues and photographs, which chart the rising fortunes of Crittall Windows Ltd over the last century, are being developed into an archive of the company's history.

The project launched at Braintree District Museum is a joint venture between Crittall Windows Ltd, the museum and Braintree District Council.

More than 30 local people who owned objects, documents, photographs and other materials related to Crittalls attended the launch to see archive materials and donate items to the Crittall Windows Archive.

A significant number of artefacts were donated to the museum, including an old iron portrait, the bronze prototype of a plaque for Silver End Memorial Gardens and previously unseen photographs.

Councillor Jo Beavis, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "This promises to be a fascinating archive that will bring the company's, and of course the town's, history to life."
