ALI Carter has been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters at the quarter-final stage.
The Springfield snooker player, who won this tournament in 2010, lost out 5-3 to former World Champion John Higgins.
He had been trailing 4-1 but fought back to 4-3 with some with some steady break-building before the Scot sealed the match.
Fellow Essex player Mark King is also out. The Great Notley potter overcame home favourite Ding Junhui in the opening round but Shaun Murphy proved too good the next day and completed a 5-3 win.
