A THRIFTY teenager has bought his family Christmas dinner for just 10p.
Jordan Cox, from Hutton, who describes himself as an "extreme couponer", has saved his family hundreds of pounds this year.
The 15-year-old collects as many discount coupons as possible and uses them when his family goes food shopping.
He has previously saved £80 at Tesco, reducing a £112 bill to £32.
He was also able to buy the family's Christmas dinner food, which should have cost £36, for just 10p.
Jordan, a pupil at St Martin's school, told the Gazette: "Our family was going through hard times with money because of the recession and there was a programme that came on TV called Extreme Couponing.
"I watched it and was just amazed at how much they saved so I started looking up coupons and really got into it."
The teenager claims to have saved more than £600 in the last five months thanks to his use of coupons, with the money saved put to better use.
Jordan said: "We've managed to treat ourselves to a lot of nice things, we could afford a holiday now, which we couldn't do before so it has really helped.
"At first my mum thought I was mental but after two shopping trips we saved about £50 and she was amazed, after that we just got into and saved more and more every time."
Jordan's mum, Debbie Cox, a medical secretary, revealed some of the techniques her son uses.
She said: "If he sees a coupon online he will then search all the different websites like Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's to see if they've got a special offer on that product. If they've already reduced it then you get even more money off.
"Quite often he'll find the coupon is worth more than the price of the product, so you get more money off other shopping. Basically he's saved us heaps.
"Quite a few of our shops have been half price, or more than half price, so it's well worth doing."
