JUDGES for the Gazette's short story competition have put their heads together to choose two winners.

Authors Anne Cassidy and Maggie Freeman discussed the entries with representatives from the competition's two sponsors, Calcott Hall Farm and Brentwood Brewing Company, and Gazette Editor Neville Wilson.

Peter McTurk, who runs Calcott Hall Farm, and assistant brewer Sophie De Ronde, of Brentwood Brewing Company joined the rest of the panel at Brentwood Library.

The competition, launched in October, saw the Gazette publish 33 stories, no more than 250 words in length, earlier this month.

The panel will select two writers to each win a £50 book token, one from the under 18 Junior Jotters category, and another from the over 18s Senior Scribes section.

Readers were given the chance to vote for their favourite entry.

Winners will be announced in the paper on Boxing Day, December 26.
