THE Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Ann Coe, awarded a total of £60,000 to groups that run community schemes in the area.

A total of 25 organisations from the Brentwood area were presented sums from the council's Brentwood Localism Share Fund.

Earlier this year the fund also committed money from the fund to organise street parties to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Cllr Coe presented the sums to the organisations in an event held at the Town Hall on Thursday, December 19, and spoke of her pleasure at playing host to the organisations.

She said: "It was great to meet many of the faces behind the successful bids for this money and to hear from them more about all their projects that will add so much to the quality of life in our area."

One of those projects is the Disability Inclusion Service (DIS), which will be using their £4,800 Share Fund grant to teach art-based life skills to those with learning disabilities.

DIS spokesman Robert Fillary also seemed positive after receiving their fund.

He said: "We're so excited to move our work to the Brentwood communities. Our aim is to build an inclusive community through our various creative-led projects."
