SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has been granted a licence to sell alcohol between 8am and 11pm, seven days a week at its new store in Hanging Hill Lane, Hutton.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Town Hall of Brentwood Borough Council's licensing/appeals sub-committee on December 14.
The application for a new licence for the store, which is being developed on the site of the former Woodpecker pub, came before the sub-committee after a resident objected.
The man, who was identified only as Mr Cox, had objected to the application amid concerns over the number of shops already in the area, noise, the increased availability of alcohol and litter problems.
Mr Cox could not attend the meeting, however a representative of Tesco was present to address the sub-committee.
The councillors concluded that the application "could be unlikely to cause nuisance problems within the vicinity of the premises" and thus resolved to grant Tesco the licence.
