PARKING charges at pay and display car parks in Ongar and North Weald will be frozen this year.
The news, announced last week by Epping Forest District Council, comes as commuters face large daily increases for parking in local London Underground car parks, such as the one in Epping.
People who use The Pleasance car park, off Ongar High Street, will be among those to benefit from the freeze.
This car park currently costs £1.40 for two hours and £2.80 for more than two hours.
Councillor Chris Whitbread, the leader of Epping Forest District Council, said: "Money is tight for everyone.
"We understand that support for the local economy is particularly important.
"The last thing our local high streets, residents and shoppers need is any more increases in parking costs."
He added: "Thankfully, Epping Forest District Council is one of the most efficient councils.
"I am confident we have the plans in place to avoid any increase in the district element of council tax and pay-and-display charges for our long and short stay car parks during 2013.
"Those car parks that are currently free at weekends to encourage high street shopping will also remain so."
