MORE than 150 avid readers turned out to quiz the Essex Chronicle's editor, pick up a packed goodie bag and pose for pictures with our mascot Presston the newshound.

Stationed at George Yard Shopping Centre in Braintree, Chronicle senior editor Paul Dent-Jones spent Saturday chatting to shoppers.

Readers pitched story ideas and gave the editor feedback, while passers-by were also invited to fill in a questionnaire in a bid to win tickets to the Chronicle's Food and Drink festival at Cressing Temple on July 19 and 20.

Editor Paul said: "It was a brilliant day and a great way for me to meet and chat with our loyal army of readers. Lots of people stopped by to share their story ideas, talk about local issues and give me feedback on the newspaper and our website.

"People loved our goodie bags which were packed with treats donated by local shops.

"So a big thank you must go to Tesco's stores in Market Place and Marks Farm, Braintree, and Great Notley, who gave us an endless supply of cookies, doughnuts, bananas, apples and satsumas, and Townrow department stores, Boots and Superdrug, who also gave us some goodies."

Students bid a 'Bond' farewell to academy

ALMOST 200 Year 11 students got together for an evening of glitz and glamour as they bid a "Bond" farewell to secondary education.

The Casino Royale-themed leavers' prom, held at Tabor Academy, in Braintree, saw students don James Bond-style dinner suits and dainty dresses before making a grand entrance in a vast array of vehicles, from a series of miniature bicycles to a massive tractor.

Matthew Clarke, 16, a former member of Tabor's Student Leadership Team, said: "The prom was something that I'll never forget. Being with your friends and dancing the night away was truly magical and could never be replaced."

A Hollywood-style entrance led Tabor's Alumni to the school hall, which had been transformed into a mini Las Vegas for the send-off party.

Treated to a performance from former X Factor contestants Brick City, students also posed for photographs on the red carpet.

Chris Bowler, acting principal and director of academies at Lilac Sky Schools, said: "The students made a real effort to dress up. Staff had worked hard to make sure that the hall was transformed into a prom venue and there was even a massive chocolate fountain.

"I thought it was a brilliant event and I was very proud of all the students."

AS THE East Anglian BMX Series ventures into the tail end of the season, Braintree Bullets BMX Club are still leading out the Inter Club Competition by 125.5 points from their nearest rivals with just two rounds to go. At the most recent round in Ipswich the club showed their dominance with 50 entries amongst the 145 at the event and took a number of class wins to bolster their total. The Ipswich track is one of the oldest in the country and was a great test for some of the new school riders with its slippery dirt turns and steep start hill. The young guns of the six and unders were first to put it to the test and Silas Maxwell rode his way to seventh with his brother Sebastian just missing out on the final. Up into the sevens and Joseph Long finished with a flourish in his final heat race to take seventh overall. The super competitive eights saw Eddie Cannons dice through the pack to second in the A final with club mate Archie Bartlett also up with the leaders in fourth. In the B final Harley Neal took second with Harley Battle rounding off the field in fourth. The first win of the day for the Bullets came in the nines with Adam Gilbert going unbeaten all day to take the win in the final by a large margin. Joseph Harris also had a strong finish as he battled with club mate Cameron Parrish to take third and fourth respectively. Also in the A final were Zak Acteson Rook, Kamran Neal and Ewan Thomson. The B final was won by William Hale with Ellis Challis in second. The riders in the tens traded places throughout the day and just four points separated the top three. When the points were tallied, Alex Doree was given second with Joe Little just behind in third and Jack Everitt was fifth. The girls' class had Roxy Hinton looking good for a podium finish but a crash in her last race saw her relegated to fourth with club mates Freia Challis and Amelia Parrish taking sixth and seventh. There were more podium finishes to come for the Bullets and another rider to go unbeaten through all the heats, semis and finals was Sydney Allen in the 12s. Allen who is supported by Identiti Bikes looked on top form as he showed great technical ability ahead of the pack and romped home for the win with club mate Seb Pantlin chasing hard behind him in second. Owen Vaughan put in a strong performance in to finish fifth with Matt Goodwins sixth and Thomas Knight seventh. Lewis Woolcott rode in the B final to seventh. The wins kept coming for the bullets as the riders got bigger and Christian White was the victor in the 14s as he powered away from the pack. The next Bullet home was Lee Butson who looked to be enjoying the loose conditions and Charlie O'Grady was awarded eight although he had to sit out of the final after a crash earlier in the day. Jake Newton took the B final win with Alfie Giles and Edward Parker hot on his wheels. Lana Redgewell mixed it up with the boys in the 16s and she looked on form to take third with Dan Gilbert in fourth. In the 15-16 girls, Isabel Potter took third. The cruiser class saw some great racing throughout the day and when the dust settled it was Chris Potter who took the win. Also in the final were Paul Woolcott and Paul Neal who battled amongst themselves for sixth and seventh and Cameron Parrish also rode in the class. The ladies cruiser had club secretary Jen Cannons jockeying for position and she was looking good in fourth with Carolyn Pantlin in fifth. The club coach Julian Allen rode in the 17+ class and was looking on course for a victory after wins throughout the heat races. Come the final and again, the Identiti bikes supported rider was out front. Down the second straight he was overtaken but undeterred he went for a move in the second corner to reclaim the lead when he collided with another rider and they both fell. Allen remounted and rode to sixth unhurt. The final race of the day was the Superclass race. The fast boys had been wowing the spectators all day and the A final was a spectacular show of speed and ability. Out front from the gate was Ryan Hutchinson who showed that his British Cycling backing is working as he dominated the race and took the win for the Bullets. Back in sixth was Josh Butson who had been mixed up in the pack mid race with Shane Redgewell, Chris Potter and Charlie Giles rounding out the finals. The Bullets summer race series continues on Wednesday evenings at their Deanery Hill track. Alleged Tulisa V Festival 'assault' of Vas Morgan 'a playground argument'

An "utterly parasitic" celebrity blogger confronted former X Factor judge Tulisa after being turned away from an after party at last year's V Festival in Chelmsford, a court heard. Vas Morgan was hoping to gain access to the event in order to furnish his blog with stories, Chelmsford Magistrates' Court was told today (July 2). Singer Tulisa Contostavlos, 25, is on trial accused of assault in relation to an alleged confrontation at Hylands Park last August 18. Co-defendant Gareth Varey, her personal assistant, is accused of using threatening, abusive and insulting words in the same incident. The court has heard Mr Morgan was attempting to leave V Festival at around 12.30am when he was confronted by former NDubz singer Tulisa. Following a heated exchange he claims Tulisa then punched him in the face leaving him with a puffy, swollen eye. But during her closing statement, Arlette Piercy, defending Varey, said: "He was trying to get into an after party where he hoped to get better stories for his blog. "As a celebrity blogger, whatever that means, he is utterly parasitic on the lives of others in his world it's all about what parties you've been invited to what parties you haven't been invited to. "In his world it is all about image you hob-nob with the stars for useless tittle tattle to add to your blog. "Imagine his image after being rejected from an after party." Jeremy Dein, defending Tulisa, said Mr Morgan's allegations formed part of a "vendetta" against her, which stemmed from an incident in October 2011 when she asked security to remove him from a VIP area at London nightclub Whisky Mist. Mr Dein claims the alleged victim published a sex tape involving Tulisa by putting it on his blog alongside lewd allegations. Mr Dein added: "His reputation to him is everything. He is a mere blogger and is desperate to mix with celebrities. "The incident is nothing more than a protracted playground argument." The case has been adjourned until July 25 at Stratford Magistrates court.

This picture captures the moment shortly after a shed burst into flames, causing black smoke to bellow into the skies in Chelmsford this evening (July 2).

Two fire engines sped to the blaze in Braemar Avenue in Old Moulsham shortly after 8.10pm after a "a large number of calls" from neighbours.

Richard Wilson wrote on Facebook: "Really big explosion though. Fire brigade got there just afterwards.

"Lots of shouting. Really hope nobody was near when it went off. Blaze was already as high as the trees so hopefully no one was anywhere near it."

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, engulfing a six-metre by four-metre shed, by 8.52pm using two hose reel jets.

A fire service spokesman said no one was injured.

The service has already recorded the cause of the fire as being accidental.

Judge 'extends mercy' to corpse pornography man Michael Gilmore despite indecent child image possession

A FORMER IT technician wept in the dock after escaping a prison sentence for possessing thousands of child pornography images – his second conviction in ten years.

Unemployed Michael Gilmore, 42, who recently moved from Hill Road, Chelmsford, to Felix Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to ten charges of downloading and possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, including one picture and a video both simulating sex with a corpse.

At Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, Judge David Turner said: "The court is faced with an impossible dilemma – on the one hand a defendant who re-offends in this way deserves to go to prison, and if that previous offending had been more recent than 10 years ago you would be going to prison today.

"But that is not the course of action I'm going to take. I intend to extend a measure of mercy to protect you and the public from further harm so that you can get some help in the long-term interest of all concerned.

"This is a shameful day for you and these images are of a dreadful nature. I accept you developed a morbid interest in these images.

"But this is not a victimless crime – to make these images little children as young as four and five are forced into makeshift studios and exploited for profit."

Two counts of distributing indecent images were left to lie on file as part of a negotiation for Gilmore's early guilty plea.

In May, he admitted to having a total of 1,943 level 1 images, 226 of level 3, 18 of level 5 and 73 of level 7, as well as a film depicting sex with a dead body on his computer between January 2012 and July 2014.

Police officers raided his house on September 19 last year and searched his computers, but no arrest was made until Gilmore contacted officers and went for a voluntary interview on October 17.

In these series of interviews he described how he had been under pressure at work and had become withdrawn from society.

In October 18, 2012, Gilmore was left house-bound after being stabbed in London, the court heard, and he began to search for pornographic websites, initially of young girls aged 18-20.

This soon turned to images of children aged 11 and 12 which Gilmore downloaded, then shared via a peer-to-peer network with paedophiles around the world, the court heard.

After being caught with similar images in 2004 and made the subject of a community order, Gilmore was placed on the sexual offenders' register for five years.

He then went through a period of stability in his life "immersing himself in model airplanes and music", according to James Evan, his defence solicitor.

This was until the knife attack in 2012 which left him with facial scars and mental trauma, the court heard.

He had also suffered a relationship breakdown and increasingly turned to drink as work stresses began to build up.

It was during these alcohol fuelled binges that he began to surf the web for more extreme material.

The court also heard how since moving to Ipswich, Gilmore was the subject of a separate police investigation into further child pornography charges relating to 1,400 pictures of level 1 and 2 category.

Since his arrest in October Gilmore had become even more depressed and even resulted to self-harm – stabbing himself "at least a dozen times" in the scrotum, but didn't seek medical help.

The former Witham resident was given a three-year community order and a supervisory requirement for three years to complete a sexual offender's treatment programme.

He was also made the subject of a sexual prevention order that means he must surrender any Internet devices to police upon request as well as signing on to the sex offenders' register for five years.

Jail beckons for armed robbers Jaymes Lang and Craig Winskill after two week crime spree

A MASKED knife-wielding robber faces jail for raiding a pub full of punters, a bookmakers and a shop during a two-week crime spree.

Convicted burglar Jaymes Lang, 23, burst into The Sun Inn in Feering, on April 14, punched a barman in the face, and forced punters and other staff to lie face-down on the kitchen floor while he and his accomplice Craig Winskill robbed them at knifepoint.

Two days earlier, jobless Lang, of Snowdrop Close, Witham, had walked into the Ladbrokes betting shop in Newland Street, Witham.

He then handed over a note which said: "I don't care any more. I want £500 cash or I will shoot you and your staff. Don't test me, I have nothing to lose."

Then at about 4pm on April 22, Lang went to the Church Street Co-op shop in Bocking and threatened the woman cashier with a knife and demanded money.

When she couldn't open the till and suggested she get a colleague to help, he threw a packet of marshmallows at her, leapt over the counter and tried unsuccessfully to open the till before fleeing on foot with cigarettes.

Winskill, who was apprehended hiding in a field shortly after the Sun Inn raid, told officers "I don't have anything to lose, **** it, it was me."

But Lang was not arrested until a dawn raid at his home in Witham on the morning of April 24 and appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court the next day.

At Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, Lang, wearing a grey jumper, pleaded guilty to three charges, including two armed robberies and one attempted robbery.

Winskill admitted to one count of armed robbery in relation to the incident at The Sun Inn

Appearing via video link from Chelmsford Prison, Lang and Winskill spoke only to confirm their names and enter their guilty pleas.

Sarah Davis, prosecuting, said: "The use of weapons and force as well as the matter of dangerousness arise in this case."

Stephen Levy, defending, said: "Given the circumstances of this case we would ask for consideration of a psychiatric report."

Judge Charles Gratwicke ordered a pre-sentence report about the pair's mental and offending history.

They were remanded in custody to appear again at Chelmsford Crown Court for sentence on July 21.

Teenager pledges savings to Chelmsford Community Church building revamp

A 14-year-old boy gave his entire £600 savings to help fund the new Chelmsford Community Church building.

The teenager, who asked not to be named, pledged his allowance money after Peter Balls appealed to the congregation in March.

The teen, more akin to spending his £14-a-week pocket money on computer games, said: "I felt it was the right thing to do. I wanted to make a contribution and that's how I made it."

His father said he did not dissuade his son from sticking to his pledge.

"He did that of his own initiative," said his dad.

"It's just I think his love for God. He made a commitment to God about five or six years ago and he has always stuck by that."

Peter said: "I said to his parents 'you are going to be so proud of your son, but are you sure this is OK?'

"I find that incredible, for a young lad to give that sort of amount is quite phenomenal."

HUNDREDS of enthusiastic runners – some with dogs, kids in pushchairs and even wearing fancy dress – descended on Great Notley Discovery Park on Saturday for the first ever parkrun.

After four months of planning the run started at 9am, with 230 people setting off on the 5k race from the Wooden Spoon Café.

"It was absolutely superb, the weather was perfect, we timed it really luckily as it started to rain just as we finished," said Len Marten, the event director.

"I actually live in Braintree, but when we set up the Chelmsford parkrun we didn't think there would be a desire for one here, but after the success of the Chelmsford and Maldon runs, Braintree District Council approached us to start one and it's been great.

"We expect the second one to have a few less people, that's normal as people come from miles away to take part in new parkruns, then it drops off, then we hope it picks up again as local support grows."

Those that sign up get a barcode and once they complete the course they get a text informing them of their time.

"I really like parkruns, they're open to everybody, from children aged six and adults aged nearly 80," added Len, 42.

"Great Notley is a great place to run as well, it's very different to Chelmsford as that is around Central Park and flat, whereas Great Notley is two laps, the ground is uneven and has a big hill."

First past the finishing line was Malcolm Muir in 16 mintues and 53 seconds.

Chelmsford was the first parkrun in Essex, but now they are held in Colchester, Southend, Harrow, Basildon and Maldon, and Braintree.

The Met Office has stated that Essex could see the hottest day of the year so far - with temperatures higher than Honolulu, Madrid, and Los Angeles. Forecasters have said that the temperature in the county could exceed the 27C recorded in Fife in Scotland this year. But the day could prove miserable for hay fever sufferers, with pollen levels also predicted to be among the highest of the year. Helen Roberts, forecaster at the Met Office, said: "It will be a very hot day. "We think that temperatures could go higher in areas North East of London towards the East Anglia region. "We know that there is cloud further north but East Anglia, with a light south west wind, could exceed 27C." The previous high in Essex, 26.5C was recorded on June 9 and 10 in Writtle.

Adam Woricker jailed for multi-million pound church theft scheme

A Woodham Ferrers accountant who admitted to stealing  from his own church has been jailed for eight years.

Adam Woricker, 41, of Main Road, pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday (July 2) to 32 charges in relation to theft - totalling £1.6million.

He changed his plea yesterday at the start of what was due to be his trial.

The court heard the thefts took place while Woricker worked as a partner at London-based chartered accountants Fisher Phillips . His victims included author Hanif Kurieishi, his own clients, and a group of churches.

The ill-gotten proceeds were then spent on luxury hotels, holidays, cars and gifts to his girlfriend.

DC Ian Bloomfield, who was the Essex Police serious economic crime unit investigating officer said: "Adam Woricker had a lucrative career in London but this was not enough for him.

"He became involved in an investment scheme, called a Ponzi scheme, but then played fast and loose with other people's money, leaving some of them financially ruined.

"Woricker dishonestly hooked people into the scheme and because he was their accountant he knew how much they had available and took them for what he knew they were worth.

"He persuaded some people to spend their life savings or invest with him rather than pay off their mortgage.

"He stole over £2m, and he spent cash on shopping sprees for designer clothes and jewellery for him and his wife and he drove high value cars."

Dc Bloomfield added: "I hope this lengthy prison sentence for Woricker will give him time to reflect on his actions which left some of his victims penniless.

"I also hope it allows his victims a degree of closure and that they will be able to rebuild their lives and move on."

Hundreds will line the streets of Essex to await the arrival of the Tour de France on July 7 but where are the best places to watch it?

See below for a rundown of the places with pre-planned events
The Essex route of the Tour de France

Whilst some areas are providing large screens in outside communal areas for spectators to watch the Tour throughout Stage Three, there are some great spots where you can admire the cyclists for yourself as they race past. In addition, there are several places organised off route.

Chelmsford

The Chelmsford leg of the stage will pass Roxwell Road, which is an idyllic area for bystanders with the beautiful open fields that surround it.

From 9.30am to 4.30pm Admirals Park, which is just a few minutes' walk from the main route, will also be home to a large screen as in the other towns, and will host a range of cycling activities throughout the day to entertain the whole family.

There will be a viewing area for people with disabilities on the junction of Melbourne Avenue and Chignal Road in Chelmsford. No booking is needed but you can reserve a space by emailing

Great Waltham

the route will travel down Main Road and past Great Waltham Church whose grassy grounds will act as the perfect viewing point for spectators.

The route will also take the riders past The Common in Saffron Walden, making the spacious green a great place to spend the day in the sunshine whilst you wait for the Tour to arrive.

Finchingfield

As the Tour transitions from Brent Hall Road to Church Hill, it will pass both village greens where spectators are welcome to await the arrival of the riders.

The greens will also be home to numerous events and activities, whilst The Green will host another big screen so people can watch the whole of Stage Three as it makes its way across the South East.

Video: The moment fire broke out in Braemar Avenue, Chelmsford, sending thick black smoke into the sky

A shocked Old Moulsham householder captures the moment a shed bursts into flames. The blaze broke out in Braemar Avenue shortly after 8.10pm yesterday (July 2) and was extinguished within 45 minutes. However, the force of the fire sent thick, black, acrid smoke billowing into the sky - sparking calls from several surrounding neighbours. Witness Francesco Cappelluti, of Braemar Avenue, has been told the fire is suspected of being caused by an electrical failure. "All of the shed was on fire and apparently it was a power failure inside," said the 33-year-old Italian expat. "Luckily the fire brigade arrived quick and only the shed and a couple of trees were on fire so it didn't extend to the rest of the garden. "The owners have broken everything down so the shed is not there anymore. "We thought someone could be inside so we went inside and through the house because it was open. "Apparently the people were not really aware of this and were upstairs resting." An Essex Fire and Rescue service spokesman said no one was injured. The service has already recorded the cause of the fire as being accidental.

Detectives are investigating after a 20-year-old clubber was reportedly beaten by three men outside Evoke nightclub in Chelmsford

Barber Chase Roberts, of Springfield, suffered a broken nose, a fractured sinus and a suspected air pocket under his cheek after the attack at about 3am on Sunday (June 29).

Speaking to the Chronicle he explained how the group dragged him around a corner in Market Road before apparently assaulting him.

Mr Roberts said: "Me, my girlfriend and my girlfriend's younger sister were sitting on the floor outside Evoke trying to arrange a lift home as she didn't feel too well when a group of blokes walked passed and started swearing at my girlfriend and her younger sister for no apparent reason, calling them sl**s.

"One boy got right up in my girlfriend's younger sister's face and she was getting really scared.

"I got up to intervene to get them to leave it along.

"Nothing was provoked and the next thing I knew three boys dragged me around the corner."

Following the attack Mr Roberts spent 11 hours in Broomfield Hospital and is attending ongoing medical appointments.

"To be honest with all the shock that was going on there wasn't much pain until the next morning. My eyes were closed in seconds," added Mr Roberts, an ex-Boswells School pupil.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Detectives are investigating an assault at Chelmsford at which a man received serious facial injuries."

Any witnesses should call Chelmsford CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The 27-year-old who has scored two goals at the World Cup, helping his country to the quarter-finals, says he is a boyhood Arsenal fan. Martinez has smashed in 60 goals in 91 appearances for Portugese side Porto, but says he will look at his options after the Wolrd Cup finishes. Martinez revealed: "I know that there have been discussions, but still no agreements. After the World Cup I will evaluate proposals. "As a child I cheered for Arsenal, they play a game that suits me. If I had the occasion to play there, I would say yes."

TOTTENHAM may have given up on signing Ivory Coast full-back Serge Aurier. QPR have had a £5m offer turned down by the 21-year-old club Toulouse, who have said they are unwilling to sell. Arsenal are also thought to be considering other options with only oil-rich Paris St Germain willing to stump up the cash.

Accountant Adam Woricker jailed for stealing £2.4 million to fund life of luxury

A chartered accountant who stole £2.4m from a number of victims including his own church and bestselling author Hanif Kureishi over more than a decade has been jailed for eight years today (July 3).

Adam Woricker, 41, of Main Road, Woodham Ferrers, dramatically changed his 32 pleas yesterday to guilty after a jury was sworn in at Chelmsford Crown Court ahead of what was expected to be a month-long trial.

His change of heart came after being "shamed" by his former church leader, Rev Eric Fenwick, who gave evidence against him.

The court  heard how Woricker fooled investors with promises of 15 to 25 per cent interest returns, doctored bank accounts, stole from pension funds and cheques and overspent on credit cards from April 2011 to November 2012.

He blew the cash to buy an Audi Q7, a Mercedes, nights at luxury hotels in Istanbul, Marbella and Bangkok, shopping sprees to Russell & Bromley and Karen Millen, and thousands of pounds worth of gifts to his girlfriend, who he later married.

He was described by  Hanif Kurieishi, as "evil", according to prosecution barrister Mr Mark Halsey.

The writer of the book and film My Beautiful Laundrette, lost £120,000 after being persuaded to invest in a property deal with Woricker.

In court, it emerged that Woricker spent large amounts on his Albanian wife, Miss Florentina Blacku, who he married in a secret ceremony in 2009 without telling his family. The marriage remained unconsummated, however.

During their marriage, Miss Blacku went back to Albania three times and returned pregnant by her ex-boyfriend on each occasion.

In total, Woricker stole £2.4m which was spent on luxury hotels, holidays, cars and gifts to his girlfriend including £9,800 in Ernest Jones.

Woricker stole £120,000 from his family church, the Eastern Area Congregational Federation Charity, between January 26, 2002 and December 8, 2012.

The court heard the thefts took place while Woricker worked as a partner at London-based chartered accountants Fisher Phillips between January 2002 and June 2012.
Sentencing, Judge David Turner QC, said: "You spent money in dozens of shops in restaurants, on vehicles, on consumer goods, on one occasion in Ann Summers. You went on holiday in the UK, Spain, Gibraltar, Thailand, Albania, and Switzerland.

"It seems Miss Blacku was living a parallel life in Albania.

"This is a sad and shameful day for you and a truly painful one for your family in court.

"You were a chartered accountant, church leader and charity supporter and at present your life, reputation and finances lie in tatters.

"On the second day you finally faced up to your guilt that you should have admitted months ago.

"You approached old friend's clients and your minister and other church contacts and businesses and you shamelessly exploited their trust in you.

"This is sometimes called a Ponzi scheme in which you protracted, stalled, covered up, and lied.

"You took clients' money, church money, and a pension which was especially dishonest, and lied to cover your tracks and left a legacy of hurt, embarrassment and humiliation.

"And I haven't got anywhere near the full story.

"Much was squandered for self-indulgent ends on a lifestyle of extravagance lavishly spending on your partner."

Mitigating, Mr Richard Keogh said: "He stated that he fell for Miss Blacku and his marriage was born out of affection. He was married in 2009 but it was never consummated and they did live together.

"He gave her in excess of £100,000 and the defendant was truly smitten but he accepts this was no excuse."

He even stole £25,000 from Rev Eric Fenwick, the Mission and Society representative of the congregational church in Chapel Row, which Mr Woricker has close family ties with and he was treasurer of.

Woricker's parents were present at the trial which was expected to last a month.

Mitigating, Richard Keogh said: "It's a tragedy for all those who lost money and a now a tragedy for him and he will have to pay the price.

"He has let everyone down. He apologises from the bottom of his heart.

"He led a moral life up until four years ago and lived a sheltered existence.

"He was seduced by romance, love and money and allowed to spiral out of control – he admits that maybe prison is the best place for him."

Woricker claimed that he was also tempted into a building project based in Peckham which went bust.

Mr Keogh added: "He was ripped off by others as well."

In total, Worwicker admitted 29 counts of theft, two counts of forgery and one count of using a false instrument, namely a Lloyds bank statement which he knew or believed to be false. 22 fraud charges will remain on file.

THE M11 remains closed in both directions this evening (July 3) after an overturned lorry spilled a large amounts of chemicals across both carriageways.

UPDATE 10.30pm: Fire crews are assisting in recovering the vehicle. Chemicals remaining in the tanker are being decanted safely into another container. The road remains closed as the clean-up operation continues.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the HGV that overturned at around 5.10pm today between junctions 7 and 8, Harlow to Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport, northbound.

The accident caused a large spillage of, at this stage, an unknown liquid across the road and the motorway is now closed in both directions.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident.

Fire crews from Harlow, Epping, Stansed and Grays are dealing with the spillage along with the Environment Agency.

The ambulance service are treating the driver of the tanker, who has received cuts and bruises but is not believed to be seriously injured.

Police are urging motorists to find alternative routes as there is already heavy traffic congestion and those caught up in the closure should stay with their vehicles and wait for instructions from the emergency services.

The Highways Agency advise northbound traffic to follow hollow diamond symbol on diversion signs, which will direct traffic to leave the M11 at junction 7 and take A414 through Harlow and continue west to A10, then take A10 north to Puckeridge and join A120 east to junction 8 of the M11.

Southbound traffic should follow the Hollow square diversion signs to follow the same route in reverse.

Updates on the road closures can be obtained from the Highways Agency website at www.highways.gov.uk.
