DAY OUT: GREAT BRITISH PONY PARADE

Join resident pony Robbie and his friends for a gallopingly-good day. There'll be displays of different British pony breeds where you'll find out about their uses throughout history. The ponies will be groomed and tacked ready for a parade where they'll be led in-hand, ridden and even pull carriages. Young and old can get crafty and make their very own rosette; give them to your favourite pony or take them home. Throughout the day experts will be on hand to answer your questions.

A great way to celebrate autumn – lots of apple-themed activities for all the family, plus a chance to buy lovely fresh apples from the growers. FAMILY FUN: Storytelling Sunday

Classic fairy tales, ripping yarns and scary stories will be bursting from the page as the Southend shopping centre celebrates Children's Book Week with its first ever Storytelling Sunday. Acclaimed author Martin Coleman will be on hand to read from his illustrated book, the King's Panto and sign that and his other books. Martin will be joined by a whole host of other storytellers, actors and puppets as well as the Royals' cuddly mascot, Ryan the Lion, who stars in his own story.
ART: ESSEX POETRY FESTIVAL

The festival brings the best contemporary and spoken word poets in the UK to Chelmsford. In the evening: Blake Morrison, poet and novelist, award winning Caroline Gilfillan and Tim Cunningham. A comedy set in the small harbour of Tickle Cove which is in dire need of a doctor so that the town can land a contract to secure a factory which will save the town from financial ruin. Village resident Murray French leads the search, and when he finds Dr Paul Lewis he employs - along with the whole town - tactics to seduce the doctor to stay permanently.

Join the annual open day where you can come and do a range of activities around the centre and explore a part of Epping Forest. You can meet the animals, pond dip, peer down microscopes, complete a map trail, have a go on a low ropes course, make a clay animal and enjoy some light refreshments.
