A reward of up to £20,000 is being offered for information into the the disappearance and murder of a doorman who went missing while visiting his girlfriend's house in Romford.

Jimmy Harmon was last seen at about 3pm on Saturday, January 24 1998, when he visited his girlfriend's house in in the Mawney Road area of Romford.

He was only at the address a short while when he received a call on his mobile phone, which prompted him to leave, saying that he had to go and see a friend in the Rainham area and would return at 8pm. He never returned.

He left the premises alone in his distinctive silver Mercedes 190E saloon, registration A872 GBA, which had lowered suspension and a loud music system.

The car was found abandoned in Bexley Gardens off Barley Lane, near to King George's Hospital in Goodmayes.

Police inquiries suggest that the car had been there since the day Jimmy went missing.

An extensive investigation has been unable to establish his whereabouts and although his body has never been recovered, it is now presumed that he has been murdered.

Detective Chief Inspector Neale Baldock, who is leading the investigation for the HSCC, said: "The investigation has focussed on Jimmy Harmon's lifestyle and in 1998 he was well known as a doorman at a number of east London clubs and pubs.

"There are very strong grounds for believing that he was murdered very soon after his disappearance on 24 January 1998.

"It is now 15 years since James was last seen alive. I know he was involved in criminal activity in east London and I believe the key to this investigation is likely to come from within that criminal fraternity or their associates. In the intervening years loyalties and allegiances may have changed, and I would appeal to anyone with new information to come forward and speak to us."

At the time of his disappearance Jimmy was described as white, 5ft 7ins and stocky with short cropped brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue 'Budweiser' T shirt, tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

He worked as a mechanic and fitter and also part-time as a doorman at the Robin Hood Public House in Longbridge Road, Dagenham.

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 1571 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
