COMMUNITY servants who contribute to the life of one of Brentwood's biggest schools are to be honoured in a new awards scheme.

Brentwood County High School Community Awards are being run to recognise all the people who help add to the life of the school in Seven Arches Road.

Stephen Drew, the school's new head teacher, who has only been in post since the beginning of the current term, said one of the first things he wanted to do was to nurture the already strong links between the town and the school, which educates almost 1,400 students.

Now he is looking for nominations for anyone who helps to support the school in any capacity for the awards due to take place on Friday, December 7.

Mr Drew, who found fame on the Channel 4 TV show Educating Essex, said: "I don't want at this stage to designate any categories – I want to see what nominations we get first of all – but they can be for anyone who contributes to the life of the school.

"I don't want to limit who and what is eligible for the first year – I want it to be completely open."

Nominations will close on November 23.

A panel of students, parents governors and staff will select the winners and the categories may become more permanent for subsequent award ceremonies.

Mr Drew continued: "We benefit enormously from people who do something for the school – they are making our job here much easier and we want to recognise that.

"We will recognise those who work hard to enrich our school community through their work both inside and outside the school.

"We are seeking nominations of people who help to support our community.

"These could be a sports coach, a youth leader, a public servant, a fundraiser or religious leader – basically, anyone who enriches the lives of our young people is eligible for recognition.

"It's just about the school being part of the community and pushing how the school and community can work together.

"We are very good at recognising the school, but when people do things for the school we ought to recognise what they do too."

To nominate please complete the form below and send it to Janette Ballantyne, Brentwood County High School, Seven Arches Road, Brentwood, CM14 4BG, or e-mail your nominations to bchs@bchs.essex.sch.uk
