"THINK pink was fabulously pink and wonderfully delicious" was just one of the comments made by a guest at a charity dinner in Ongar, which raised almost £650 for breast cancer care.

It was wall to wall pink for the 26 guests, many of whom dressed up in the colour, at a supper club laid on to support the Epping Breast Cancer Unit Charitable Fund.

Pink candles, balloons and flowers transformed the home of organiser Katherine Garner, who even managed to conjure up a five-course menu of dishes all of the same colour.

The 49-year-old, from Hunters Chase, who set up her monthly supper club business just over a year ago, decided it would be good to dedicate a night to support breast cancer care locally, after being moved to do so by a friend who is suffering with the disease.

The mother of three, who was helped on the night by her husband Peter, 46, said: "When you think about it you realise that we all know somebody who is affected by this horrible disease.

"It can be a killer, it's such a bad one, and we thought it would be really nice to do something that specifically supports local women who find themselves in that dreadful position of dealing with the disease."

Within the areas covered by Princess Alexandra and St Margaret's hospitals, approximately 350 new patients are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and ten per cent would benefit from treatments which are unavailable on the NHS in the area.

EBCUCF has been set up to fund these treatment options and the £646.50 raised at the event will all go to the cause.

On the night more than £5 from each £35 ticket was pledged and there was an auction of lots donated mostly by contacts of Mrs Garner through Twitter.

Among them was a course of botox which sold for £200, as well as many pink items, including a bottle of rose, pink champagne and a purse and scarf of the same colour.

Mrs Garner confirmed she would definitely consider repeating the event, so long as the support was there.

She added: "There was an awful lot of noise and laughter.

"People often wonder why it would be fun to come and have dinner with a load of strangers, but the truth is that so often people arrive as strangers and go home as friends."
