BRENTWOOD ABC celebrated moving into their new premises with a first home show in more than four years on Saturday.

In previous seasons the club have missed out on crucial revenue because their facilities weren't big enough and they had to pay to hire other venues.

But since switching to a council-owned building in August they can now host crowds in excess of 150 at the venue.

"It's been a really good move for us and from the first show we think we've made just under £1,000 for the club which is great," said club secretary Bex Davies.

On the night Brentwood's Brandon Caton stopped his opponent in the second round while fellow club members Simmy Boyle, Dave Sheperd, Billy Chandler, Reggie Buckley and Finley Mowatt all won their contests on points.

Brentwood Borough Council offers a cheaper than market rent but the move to Essex Way, Warley is just a stop-gap. The two parties continue to try and find the club a permanent home within the next 18 months.

For now though the club and it's 350 members are delighted with their new spacious surroundings which includes a separate room for bags, cardio and games as well as a bigger main boxing hall.

"We're right in the middle of a residential area now, so we've had so many more people showing an interest and bringing in their siblings too," said Davies.

"All the kids are really loving it. They're already calling one of the rooms their chill out room, it's got a pool table and table tennis table."

The club will host another open show on Saturday, November 3 and a dinner show before the end of the year. Participants are welcome from the age if five, if you're interested call Bex on 07784 484939 or e-mail brentwoodabc@gmail.com
