BRAINTREE Bullets BMX Club are celebrating the crowning of a new British champion in their ranks following the 2013 British BMX Championships held at Perry Park in Birmingham.

The club finished sixth out of 63 clubs from across the country – but the star of the show was Shane Redgewell, who won the 13-14 year old cruiser title after a fantastic day's racing where he didn't drop a lap in the class.

Redgewell also went on to claim third place in the prestigious 14- year-old boys BMX class, which rounded off a great season and saw him gain a new high-profile sponsorship from the Identiti Factory BMX Team based in Cambridgeshire.

Another finalist came in the shape of Oli Cutmore, who had to relinquish his grasp on the 17-29 class and he settled for fifth, while Chris Potter was unlucky to miss out on the main event.

In the 17-29 ladies, it was Redgewell's sister Lana who made the grade and rode to a sixth-place finish.

In the BMX Challenge classes, the Bullets were firing on all cylinders with more podium finishes across a number of classes. The first came in the 12-year-olds when Charlie O'Grady battled through the pack to charge into third place with club mate Ollie Rowe hot on his wheel in fourth.

In the 15's, Josh Butson gained confidence across the weekend's racing and after a strong win in his semi-final, he was among the favourites for the win. Butson got a great start and slipped into second through the first corner, before digging deep and heading back down the last straight, missing out by a the width of a tyre.

Ryan Hutchinson was also in the final but unclipped from his pedal on the gate, and while looking to battle back through the pack, crashed with another rider and finished seventh. .

The summer season culminates at the Bullets' home track where they will be hosting the East Anglian Championships on September 8 and will be looking to hold on to their Club Championships title. Registration for the event closes at 11am on the day, with racing from 12.30pm. Spectating is free. For more information on the club please visit www.braintreebmx.com
