Andros Townsend's World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread after it was revealed the Spurs winger needs more assessment on his ankle injury.
Townsend, whose performances in the latter stages of the qualifying campaign played a key role in England's qualification for Brazil.
But he has not started a Premier League game since the north London derby defeat to Arsenal on March 16, and suffered an ankle injury after coming off the bench in saturday's 1-0 win at Stoke.
He underwent a scan on Monday after leaving the Britannia Stadium in a protective boot, and will undergo further assessment on Tuesday.
